The example isn't simply exclusive to TV, either. Maybe you and some friends always go out and play basketball after work. Maybe you don't have a job so you're not quite sure what you should be doing with your time anyway. My point is, its everybody's dream to get paid for doing what we love. But even if that isn't an option, we should all be doing what we love at least some of the time. Maybe you love chess but don't have any friends that share your passion. That's perfectly fine, because you can go online and play it that way, too. We should all have hobbies, but don't let society dictate what your hobby really is. You may genuinely like a TV show, but that's still not a hobby! Go out and do something you actually love.
For me, my hobby is a little tenuous. I don't actually enjoy writing all that much. I tolerate it, and when I've got an interesting story I can actually take pleasure in writing it, but I don't wake up every morning with a grin on my face knowing what I'm going to write. I do still consider my blog something of a chore, but its also a necessity. The part that I love about writing and learning is the sense of accomplishment I get from it. I don't hate it, but I do like it. It sounds like a paradox, I know, but it makes sense to me.
But some people don't even have that. If you don't know what you love, I'd say maybe you should start broad and narrow it down. What subjects did you enjoy in school? Or maybe, what subjects were you really good at? Have you ever done anything you didn't think you'd like and been surprised? It could tell something about you and your personality that you had never thought of before. When I joined my improv troupe, my primary reasoning behind it was because I liked being funny and creative. Later, when I became the coach, I found that I actually enjoy teaching improv more than acting. To me, this says that I enjoy being in a leadership position, and I like helping people work out their mistakes.
We all love something. You may not know what your thing is, in which case, go out and do things you actually like, not just stuff you don't dislike. That's an important distinction. If you do already know what you love to do, maybe you just need to find a way (or even an excuse) to do it more. Maybe you just need to set up your internet to turn off at ten pm just to make sure you have no choice but to spend a few hours practicing the guitar.
Regardless, when you find yourself doing something you like every day, you'll go to bed feeling better about yourself. It doesn't have to be a big step. Just do something little each day and you'll thank yourself later. Now, go have fun.
